Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease that attacks the central nervous system (CNS), which includes the brain, spinal cord and cranial nerves. Symptoms, including chronic and acute pain and inflammation, arise from damage to nerve fibers. Managing pain related to MS can be difficult and complicated by the disease process itself, but individuals living with MS and their doctors should be persistent in searching for the combination of treatments that will work for them.
