About the National Pain Awareness Campaign

Mission
The National Pain Awareness Campaign (NPAC) is a coalition of the National Pain Foundation and the American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM) dedicated to increasing public awareness of chronic pain conditions, treatments, education and advocacy.

Vision

  • To increase public awareness that one in four Americans (25% of the U.S. population) suffers from chronic pain.
  • To increase public awareness that the medical specialty of Pain Medicine exists and is credible.
  • To help connect pain sufferers with certified Pain Medicine specialists.
  • To provide an annual forum to showcase progress, innovations and leadership in Pain Medicine.
  • To create and grow pain education and advocacy through NPAC's team of more than 800 Pain Ambassadors.

We now have more than 800 Ambassadors who represent every state in the US as well as 18 countries. However, we still need pain-trained physicians to become Ambassadors to reach out to their local communities and health care providers. Every voice counts in this effort to increase awareness of pain and its effect on individuals, families and the economy.
