Signs and Symptoms

In general, people with chronic pelvic pain have:

  • Pain that lasts for six months or longer.
  • Pain that is out of proportion to the amount of tissue damage.  (Pelvic pain that hurts more than it should).
  • Pain that is not relieved by OTC medicines and other ordinary treatments.
  • Decreased quality of life. Chronic pelvic pain can significantly change a person’s attitude and quality of life. It can limit a person’s physical activity and regular daily routine. It can cause a person to be unable to work or care for his or her children. Because of this, it is common for people with chronic pelvic pain to feel frustrated and depressed.
