Making Sense of Pain Relief

Are you one of the approximately 70 million Americans with arthritis or chronic joint symptoms?

The National Pain Foundation has joined with the American Chronic Pain Association and the American Pain Foundation, with support from Pfizer, Inc., for an educational campaign designed to help clarify new, and sometimes confusing, information about pain relief.

There has been a lot of news about nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). NSAIDs treat pain, inflammation, and swelling related to arthritis and joint pain. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has requested label changes to better explain potential risks for both over-the-counter NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen and naproxen, and prescription-strength NSAIDs.

If you are one of the approximately 70 million Americans with arthritis or chronic joint symptoms, please visit the Making Sense of Pain Relief web site for more information about the benefits and risks of NSAIDs and other pain medications, to learn about the types of doctors who can help you with your pain management and to find the right pain relief.

Now more than ever, it's important to talk with your health care provider about the most appropriate pain treatments for you, based on your own unique needs and personal health profile. A discussion guide that may help you talk to your health care provider about your pain relief needs is also available on the site.
