Injections

Your health care provider may request injections to help diagnose TOS. For example, a local anesthetic (sometimes together with a steroid) can be injected into muscles or nerves near the thoracic outlet. Improvement of symptoms may suggest that the injected muscles or nerves are the source of compression within the thoracic outlet. Other tests that may be used to further refine a TOS diagnosis include epidural and facet joint injections.

Injections carry risks and should be performed by a qualified physician (usually an anesthesiologist familiar with TOS). Discuss the risks and benefits of injections with your health care provider.
